Channel 4 has hired Kashaf Chaudhry, the producer of The Real Da Vinci Code, to join its science, history and religion department.

He has joined as deputy commissioning editor of history and science programming, reporting to Hamish Mykura.

Chaudhry started his career as a runner at indie Wall to Wall, progressing to become a researcher then assistant producer on a range of shows for C4 and ITV.

His first producer/director role was on The Hajj, where he followed pilgrims on their journey to Mecca. He also directed The Peasant's Revolt for Spire Films, a two-hour epic presented by Tony Robinson recounting the medieval revolt that almost overthrew the monarchy.
