A Channel 4 factual entertainment executive producer has left to join a prominent Ukrainian broadcaster.
Dan Berbridge has been at C4 for more than a year, working with factual entertainment commissioners Liam Humphries and Sue Murphy on shows including Rude Tube, Mary Portas: Secret Shopper and Ramsay’s Best Restaurant.
He will now join Ukraine’s second biggest terrestrial broadcaster Ukraina, where he will become the first chief executive of its newly established in-house production arm.
Initially, Berbridge will be acquiring established formats from around the world and adapting them for Ukraina’s female-skewing audience.
Before joining in November, Berbridge intends to hold a round of meetings with UK distributors about opportunities at the station. Ukraina already broadcasts a version of Maverick Television’s C4 show How To Look Good Naked.
Once the production arm is more established, Berbridge intends to oversee the development of original formats.
Berbridge previously had a spell at Russia’s TNT Broadcasting Network, where he brought in adaptations of shows such as Ten Years Younger. “I want to further build my reputation as an emerging markets troubleshooter,” he said.
Separately, C4 has expanded the responsibilities of entertainment commissioner David Williams. He will continue to commission original shows but will also have the task of finding international formats that can be adapted for C4.
