Channel 4 has ordered a one-off documentary series about sex education in schools and is to bring back The Island for two series featuring both male and female contestants as it refreshes its factual entertainment slate.
The broadcaster has also revealed Twofour’s skiing format The Jump is to return and is planning a travelogue fronted by Gadget Man host Richard Ayoade.
Sex In Class (working title) follows Belgian sex therapist Goedele Liekens (pictured) as she campaigns to make sex education a GCSE subject. The hour-long doc, produced by Warner Bros TV Productions UK’s Ricochet, will follow the United Nations goodwill ambassador as she works with 11 students to pilot a range of exam modules.
After confirming Shine TV’s The Island was to return in May, the broadcaster has revealed two 6 x 60-minute series will air simultaneously over a six week period. One will feature an all-male cast, while the other location will be populated entirely by women. The double commission follows allegations of sexism which were levelled at the male-only debut series.
While both series will air over the same period, there will be no interplay between the islands.
Elsewhere former star of The It Crowd, Ayoade has been earmarked to front an untitled 4 x 60-minute North One Television format in which he will journey with a celebrity companion to some of Europe’s most affluent locations.
And Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud will return to C4 in Escape To The Wild (working title), a 4 x 60-minute series produced by Optomen which will explore the lives of people inhabiting remote places.
E4 has also green-lit a second series of Zig Zag and GME’s youth-skewing magic series Troy.
All the shows are due to air in 2015.
