Channel 4 is rumoured to be paying around £1.5m for a new supernatural teen drama that could be scheduled in its T4 strand or on E4.

The channel confirmed it was in the process of negotiating a deal with 20th Century Fox Television for teen series Point Pleasant , which has yet to be screened in the US.

The series focuses on a 17-year-old girl who settles in the coastal town of Point Pleasant and then discovers she is the daughter of the Devil.

Only the first episode has been completed but a further six have been ordered by Fox for broadcast later this year or early 2005.

C4 is understood to have fended off a joint Flextech/Five bid for the show, but denied speculation that it was paying around £220,000 per episode.

However, sources claim that prices have risen considerably in the acquisitions market over the past year, and C4 tabled the higher bid after Living TV joined forces with Five in an attempt to win the show.
