Channel 4 has secured 13 nominations in the Royal Television Society’s (RTS) journalism awards, more than either the BBC or ITV.

Dispatches film Politician for Hire by Vera Productions has been nominated for scoop of the year award and in the current affairs – home category, and C4 News, produced by ITN, has received 11 nominations. They include Jon Snow for presenter of the year and Gary Gibbon, C4 News’ political editor, for specialist journalist of the year.

The programme’s coverage of the Chilean Miners rescue has also been nominated for best news coverage – international.

C4’s Dorothy Byrne said: “It’s hugely gratifying for our news and current affairs coverage to be recognised with an unprecedented number of nominations. The range and depth of our original reporting is reflecting in these nominations.”

The BBC and ITV have also received 11 nominations, including a double nomination for the BBC in current affairs – international category for The Wounded Platoon and Secret Iraq.

Sky News, the BBC News Channel and Al Jazeera English will all be looking to take news channel of the year.

C4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy will host the awards evening on 23 February in the London Hilton on Park Lane.
