Primal Media two-parter to explore experience of people moving into supported homes
Channel 4 is to follow young people with learning disabilities as they move away from home for the first time in a two-part documentary from Primal Media.
Home Free aims to give viewers insight into the friendships, relationships and heartache experienced by the contributors as they learn to live independently in supported living apartments.
Primal head of factual and executive producer Vicky Hamburger, who developed C4’s The Undateables for indie Betty, said the 2 x 60-minute series would be “extraordinary celebration of life”.
C4 commissioning editor Emily Jones said the show is “a joyful reminder of how brilliant and fun life can be when you are young, among friends, and starting out on your own”
In the last few weeks Ofcom’s director of content and media policy Kevin Bakhurst praised the C4 for “challenging shibboleths and being distinctive” through its diverse content.
Annabelle Draper is producer on the show, which will be directed by Trevor Docksey, who has helmed The Undateables and Call the Cleaners.
