NAB 2014: Sony and CTV Outside Broadcast have together developed a 4K OB truck with full IP infrastructure for Sky Sports’ summer cricket coverage.

The truck includes a larger router for 4K and 3G outputs and a Bosch Adam Omneo Talkback system, with all systems managed by Axon Cerebrum control software full IP infrastructure.

Sony said the new vehicle was designed to encompass the latest demands for live outside broadcast and features an innovative new design to create greater production flexibility.

A unique quad-expandable layout allows the length, width and height of the truck to expand, creating a total of four production areas as well as extensive VT and sound areas.

CTV technical director Hamish Greig said: “We needed to re-think how we did things when it came to our latest OB trucks and developed this one with one eye firmly on the future.

“Not only does the truck need to be capable of delivering the best-of-breed HD coverage now, but it needs to be ready to support 4K in the future. The result has seen the creation of one of the most powerful OB trucks in the industry.”

Sony Europe’s Head of AV Media Solutions Adam Fry said: “We have a long history of working with CTV to create trucks and solutions that transform live production and deliver unbelievable viewer experiences.

“This latestventure is a perfect example of how we’re leveraging our collective experience to deliver new cutting-edge solutions for live production that will not only herald a great summer of sports ahead, but set CTV up to capitalise on the future of 4K.”

Sony products within the truck include the MVS-8000X switcher, HDC-1500 and 2500 cameras, as well as nine of Sony’s LMD-A Series OLED monitors.
