Current TV is to air up to six film shorts on the channel following a competition it has kicked off via video sharing site Vimeo.

The pay TV broadcaster is asking members of the site to submit Current Short Cuts films around the theme of revolution or of people standing up for their rights, with up to six selected to win a prize of £1000.

The winning entries will also air as part of a New Year New Revolution season which is scheduled for January 2012.

Current TV will be promoting the competition on-air and giving the film makers access to its in-house studio to record their own promotional spots. The films will also be featured on the homepage of its website.

Jane Mote, managing director of Current TV, said it was another opportunity for aspiring producers to kickstart their career with the channel.

“Vimeo is a centre of excellence for passionate filmmakers who want to share their video and this partnership allows us to talk directly to the very best giving them a chance of their first broadcast credits,” she said.
