Canadian editing and effects developer Discreet has confirmed the closure of two R&D facilities with the loss of 60 jobs.

The Autodesk subsidiary has closed its Chicago and Los Angeles facilities as part of an effort to cut costs and eliminate duplication of effort. The move includes transferring R&D effort for Combustion to Montreal and reducing the resources dedicated to Edit, Jobnet and Frost.

In a statement, Discreet said there were no plans to discontinue any products and support would still be provided for the Edit range. Discreet regional manager Patrick Jocelyn said it was recognised that Edit, now on version 6.5, was a mature product and that it was no longer sensible to dedicate R&D effort to it.
