The BBC is launching a Doctor Who adventure game set in 1605, in which the Timelord will battle to stop Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot.

Gamers can play as the Doctor or his companion Amy Pond, and must prevent Fawkes, who is revealed to be a shape-shifting enemy Rutan alien, from infiltrating the plotters and blowing up the House of Lords to release a trapped spaceship.

The Doctor Who Adventure Game: The Gunpowder Plot, developed by Sumo Digital, will be available to download from 31 October via the Doctor Who website. It features many of the show’s cast, as well as Ralf Little as Fawkes, and has been exec produced by the  show’s usual team, including Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger, Beth Willis and Anwen Aspden.

Victoria Jaye, head of IPTV and TV online content for the BBC, ordered the game.

“We’re always looking at ways to bring Doctor Who stories to life for the audience beyond broadcast television, seizing the creative potential of digital platforms to delight fans with new ways to engage with characters and story worlds,” she said.

The first Doctor Who game has generated 2.8 million downloads since its launch in June 2010.
