Distributor DRG has secured the rights to Get Up and Dance (working title), the new format from US entertainment producer Phil Gurin.

The competitive dance show will debut later this year on MTV Networks-owned CMT in the US, which also airs Gurin’s karaoke gameshow The Singing Bee.

DRG, which also represents The Singing Bee, has picked up worldwide rights to the new 10 x 1-hour series, excluding North America and the UK where Gurin retains rights.

Produced by The Gurin Company, the primetime format challenges viewers of all ages to recreate famous dance routines ranging from music video and film to TV and commercials.

After submitting home videos, the most talented and entertaining entries are selected and then judged by a live studio audience. Those who perform live on stage compete for a big money prize.

Gurin said the show was “not just another dance contest” and described it as “a warm-hearted family entertainment show that focuses on the performance more than the dance skills”.

DRG previously picked up rights to The Singing Bee in 2007, which has since been licensed for production in 32 countries including the UK, Australia and the Middle East.
