Endemol’s head of digital Peter Cowley is stepping down ahead of a major restructure that will see the digital division merged into the wider business.

Cowley joined Endemol seven years ago and oversaw digital projects including 1 vs 100, Cell, Kirill and The Gap Year across channels such as social network Bebo, mobile operator O2 and games console Xbox.

He is leaving to start up his own business later in the year.

Endemol will create a digital board, headed by chief operating officer Lucas Church and Remarkable Television managing director David Flynn, which will also contain digital, creative and commercial heads.

The board will take over responsibility for all of Endemol’s digital activities as integrates more content with multiplatform activity.

Tim Hincks, chief executive officer of Endemol UK said: “The Digital Media Board achieves this by bringing together our brightest creative minds with the most experienced business and digital media executives in the company.”

Endemol is using social network sites as an integral part of forthcoming Channel 4 gameshow The Million Pound Drop, which will see it draw on the internet to find contestants.
