Production server technology manufacturer EVS has bought OpenCube Technologies, the French MXF media specialist.

The Belgian company is keen to see OpenCube’s MXF technology integrated into its own’ product range and 100% digital workflows developed based on MXF encapsulation formats.

EVS also hopes the acquisition will help to reinforce OpenCube’s research and development capabilities.

EVS chief executive Pierre L’Hoest said: “The complementary natures of our technologies and the expertise of the OpenCube team in broadcasting and IT were the company’s key attractions for our group, enabling us to offer the market even more wide-ranging solutions, while maintaining a high-level service.”

OpenCube makes MXF content management and manipulation software and file-based servers.

EVS products for studio acquisition, production and broadcast are based around the XS frame-based production server.

Benoit Fevrier, the founder and managing firector of OpenCube Technologies, said: “Joining the EVS group will give us the means to offer our product range immediately throughout the world, but also the resources necessary to pursue a sustained R&D activity to ensure the lasting success of our servers and MXF software,”

Both companies will exhibit at NAB (10-15 April).
