Five director of programmes Dan Chambers has scrapped the controller of factual role he previously held and split the department into two genres - history and science, writes Michael Rosser. The two deputy controllers of factual, Justine Kershaw and Alex Sutherland, become controller of science and controller of history respectively. The move pre-empts the launch of Five's forthcoming science season, which Kershaw - a former wildlife documentary producer and director who joined Five in February last year - has overseen. The Big Question begins on 5 January with five of Britain's most eminent scientists answering some of the most important questions in the field. It continues with weekly five-part series Great Scientists on 12 January and will be concluded with a two-part special on space.Chambers said: "Justine's appointment is a clear indication that the channel has every desire to move more seriously into science."- Five has acquired a second spin-off of hit US drama Law & Order for its forthcoming "America's Finest" schedule. Law & Order: Criminal Intent will begin its run on 27 January.
