Five’s new US drama FlashForward jumped ahead in the ratings last night, with a huge 3.2m (13.2%) tuning in for the premiere episode at 9pm.

The show, starring Joseph Fiennes, started strongly with a curious 3.5m (14.1%) watching the first 15 minutes, peaking at 3.6m (14.6%) at 9.10pm. That dropped slightly to 3.2m (10.6%) for the final five minutes of the show at 9.50pm.

FlashForward nearly doubled the slot average for the terrestrial, and with 18% of 16-34’s tuning in, drew more than three times the slot average for that age bracket.

The US drama beat everyone except the two main terrestrials for the 9pm hour.

The finale of Waking the Dead on BBC1 ended with a solid audience of 6.4m (26.4%), while the fourth episode of ITV1’s Blue Murder managed 4.5m (18.8%).

BBC2’s Design for Life continued to bomb, with just 900,000 tuning in (3.8%) for the third episode.

C4’s Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt movie, Mr and Mrs Smith, drew 1.1m (5.7%) with an extra 213,000 (2%) watching on C4+1.
