Three former Moving Picture Company (MPC) colleagues have joined forces to launch a visual effects studio in Soho.

VFX supervisors Chas Jarrett and Angela Barson plus producer Lucy Ainsworth-Taylor have opened BlueBolt, a 2D and CGI company set up to handle film and high-end TV effects projects from concept and storyboard through to final delivery.

“London is a hub of excellence for VFX work, but with capacity reaching its limit in established places, there is a need to have more top-quality studios opening up,” said Ainsworth-Taylor. “Obviously BlueBolt won’t immediately take on the workload of the bigger facilities, but we can compete with them on quality and service.”

The Foundry’s Nuke compositing system and Autodesk’s Maya CGI animation software will form the backbone of the Greek Street studio’s offering.

Jarrett spent nine years at MPC during which he was Oscar-nominated for Poseidon, Bafta-nominated for Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and VES-nominated for Troy. Barson worked on Quantum Of Solace and several Harry Potter films during her eight years at MPC.
