Jazz FM owner Guardian Media Group is to make its first push overseas by helping launch a new jazz station in Holland.

GMG Radio joined a bid made by Netherlands-based operator Arrow Classic Rock Radio earlier this year to launch Holland's ninth commercial radio station.

This week Arrow was awarded the licence from the Dutch government after it proposed a format of jazz music in the daytime and a more widespread musical output in the evening. It also made a bid of£8 million (£5.5m).

The FM station, which will be based in The Hague, will launch early next spring and will reach over 10 million adults - around 75% of the population. Arrow Classic Rock, which already owns a national AM rock station, is in talks with GMG Radio to broadcast some of the specialist programmes made by Jazz FM.

GMG Radio executive John Myers said: "Partnerships are currently more attractive to us than acquiring stations on our own."
