Broadcast shines the spotlight on new US comedy Hot in Cleveland.

Hot in Cleveland

What’s hot this week?
This new US sitcom centres on three middle-aged women who quit the entertainment industry in Los Angeles to live in the less shallow surroundings of Cleveland. The fourth major cast member is a sassy caretaker played by ‘Golden Girl’ Betty White.

Who’s behind it?
It was created by Suzanne Martin (Frasier, Ellen), who executive produces the show with Todd Milliner and Sean Hayes, who played Jack in Will & Grace.

Where is it shown?
It is the first scripted comedy for MTV-owned US cable network TV Land, which launched the 10-part first season on 16 June. After becoming the most-watched show in the 14-year history of the network, a second season of 20 episodes has since been ordered. It is shown in Canada on CTV and The Comedy Network, and in Australia on Nine Network.

Coming to the UK?
Distributor Endemol is expected to announce a UK deal before Mipcom, as well as several other international sales.

What the critics say
“If the premise is somewhat forced, it sets up a situation with enough comic potential to sustain it indefinitely.”
David Hinckley, New York Daily News

“The surprise of the summer - a sparkling, breezy comedy.”
Mark A Perigard, Boston Herald
