Hong Kong-British writer Amy Ng has brought her training as a historian to bear on a string of probing, political plays and is now set to make her mark in TV.

Ng’s latest play, Thatcher In China, examines the colonial history of Hong Kong, themes that will also be explored in an original TV script she is developing. For Bad Wolf, meanwhile, she is adapting Julie Ma’s 2021 novel Happy Families, which explores three generations of a Chinese immigrant family.

“Amy’s voice sings out with her natural characters and refreshing worlds,” says Bad Wolf executive producer Dan McCullough. “She makes bold choices and is working to bring under-represented characters and worlds to the British stage and screen.”
