Banijay secures sale of Alaska TV film
Alaska TV’s Thomas Markle documentary has been picked up in Latin America.
The 90-minute single Thomas Markle: My Story has been sold to pay-TV operator OnDirectTV, which will air the show across Argentina, Columbia, Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Distributed by Banijay Rights, ihe film has previously been picked by Spain’s Movistar+, Belgium’s RTL and VTM, Channel 8 in Israel and TVNZ in New Zealand.
Banijay Rights’ vice president of sales Elliot Chalkley said it deserved its global exposure.
“Thomas Markle: My Story is an important record, portrayed in a sensitive manner by an award-winning creative team,” he said.
The programme aired on Channel 5 at the end January where it reached an audience of 1.9m (8.5%), the broadcaster’s second-biggest show of the year to-date, and well ahead of the 955,000 (4.5%) slot average.
In the doc, Meghan Markle’s father Thomas speaks candidly about the breakdown of his relationship with his daughter and her and Prince Harry’s decision to retire as a senior member of the royal family.
OnDirectTV general manager Willard Tressel said: “Thomas Markle: My Story made headlines and added a wholly different perspective to the story our Latin American audience is fascinated by.”
