The daredevil light-aircraft race series has been produced by Tiger Aspect for C4 since 2006, but the contract expired at the end of the 2008 season. Last year, TigerAspect made a 10 x 60-minute series for C4, comprising six races and a four-part special leading up to the race in England.
This year's championship will air on ITV4 between May and Oct-ober. It will cover six races with a behind-the-scenes magazine show to accompany each race.
ITV4 will also air a 2008 highlights show and a 60-minute special at the conclusion of the championship. All programmes will be made by Hothouse Productions in conjunction with Red Bull's in-house production team.
The race highlights will be repeated on ITV1 and the programmes will also be available on ITV Player.
ITV4 controller Dave Fewings described the races as a “fantastic spectacle” and said they were a great fit for ITV4.
A Tiger Aspect spokesman said it was in discussions with Red Bull and C4 about future opportunities.
