Transformed, which has been commissioned for an initial 3 x 90-minute run, will see characters such as Britain's laziest and most angry man try and change their behaviour over the course of the programme after being put through a boot camp-style regime.

The series of one-offs, to air in the autumn, will be made by Granada London, with Will Smith and Layla Sabih executive producing.

ITV is also launching For One Night Onlyfor the spring, which has been developed from Granada's successful one-off factual programme Men in Tights, which featured Tyneside shipbuilders transformed into ballet dancers. Three initial one-hour shows have been ordered from Granada, which will see teachers at Cheltenham Ladies' College turned into Moulin Rouge dancers, bus drivers into Riverdanceperformers and City boys into cowboys.
