Indie Somethin' Else has clocked up a raft of new commissions from BBC radio including a series presented by legendary DJ Norman Jay for BBC Radio 2, writes Georgina Lipscomb
The 6 x 60-minute Norman Jay's Funk Factory will cover funk, old and new. It is produced by Alex Feldman and is due to air from October.The indie has also been ordered to produce 3 x 30-minute documentaries for BBC Radio 1. Beyond the Pale will look at the re-emergence of the goth movement in the UK, Can't Get You Out of My Head will look at the search for a perfect hook line and The Road to Nowhere will explore why some of the UK's hardest rock bands come from the smallest towns.It is also the first indie to receive commissions from the BBC's newly launched digital station 1Xtra, producing 2 x 15-minute documentaries for its news programme.Meanwhile, the British Council has commissioned Somethin' Else to produce Selector TV - the Best of UK Music, a 30-minute pilot.
