Jessica Hynes and Jennifer Saunders are to sit on a Bafta jury that will hand emerging comedy writers a place at the Edinburgh International Television Festival.

The comedians will join television executives including Big Talk’s Kenton Allen and Myfanwy Moore, ITV’s comedy commissioner, who will judge the Bafta Rocliffe New Writing Forum.

They will select two writers or writing teams to attend the Edinburgh International Television Festival, and three writers to fly out to the New York Television Festival.

Places are open for scribes who have not yet had a TV series commissioned, but may have broadcast writing credits. Applicants must submit a 10-page extract from their sitcom or sketch by 22 May.

Jill Offman, senior vice president of international content at Comedy Central, and Sky comedy commissioner Saskia Schuster are also on the Bafta panel. It will be chaired by Objective chief executive Andrew Newman.
