Jane Lighting, the former chief executive of Five, has resurfaced as non-executive director of Irish gambling firm Paddy Power.

Lighting has been out of the spotlight since May 2008, when she resigned from the RTL-owned terrestrial after five years in the top role, making way for Dawn Airey.

Her appointment at Paddy Power comes as the company looks to produce more video-based editorial content for its website.

It also coincides with a relaxation in rules governing the relationship between gambling and TV. Ofcom reclassified gambling on TV as teleshopping in May, clearing terrestrial channels to carry six hours of such programming a day.

Five has since forged partnerships with NetPlay TV and PartyGaming.com.

Lighting, who also sits on the board of Trinity Mirror as a non-executive director and is a trustee and fellow of the Royal Television Society, will split her time between London and Devon, where she now lives.
