The department, which will be headed by Mark Cowley, who was on the management team and was series producer on both I'm a Celebrity series, will have about five people dedicated to coming up with new formats. Cowley will report to Granada head of factual entertainment Natalka Znak, who will oversee the department, along with LWT controller of factual Will Smith.Smith told Broadcast that one of the department's formats is already set to be taken up by a US broadcaster and a couple of others are in with ITV. He said: "The task is to come up with new formats in areas we know people are interested in. It will see a dedicated team developing an expertise in this area."Smith said the company had created a bridge-head in the US with I'm a Celebrity and was building on relationships with US networks on the west coast. He said: "The US is a very big market for us, and we want to take it on to the next stage."
