Al Jazeera also agrees global deal for World Cup series with UK-based distributor

Foxtel Group and Canal+ in France have picked up a raft of shows from UK-based Espresso Media International, which has also landed a global deal with Al Jazeera.

In Australia, Foxtel has licensed a package that includes They Fight with Cameras (1 x 55 minutes), which documents the US Army Signal Corps combat cameramen who filmed the war in Europe from D-Day to the liberation of Dachau.

The package also includes War Above the Trenches, JFK: 24 Hours That Changed the World, 13 Factors That Saved Apollo 13, Resistance: They Fought Back and Roswell 75: The Final Evidence (2 x 45’), among other titles.

Canal+ has picked up The Deal with Iran (3 x 52’), which reconstructs the foiled 2018 terrorist attack at a Paris rally, the conviction of a sitting Iranian diplomat on European soil, and the prisoner exchange that followed.

The deal, which covers France and French-speaking territories, also includes The Nobel Brothers and They Fight with Cameras.

Al Jazeera meanwhile has picked up A Game of Double Standards for its English service worldwide. The show, a new acquisition for Espresso Media, traces the 12 years of scrutiny that followed Qatar’s landmark selection as the first Arab nation to host the FIFA World Cup in December 2010.

Colette Webber, Espresso’s acquisitions manager, said: “From wartime history to political thriller and sports documentary, these deals reflect the strength and range of our catalogue, and we look forward to bringing even more of these stories to audiences worldwide.”
