After exceptional charges for the year to 30 June 1999, News Corp's net profits slipped 40 per cent year-on-year, from $1.14 billion (£871 million) to $678 million (£419 million). The decline in News Corp profits was in part attributed to the launch of Sky Digital in the UK, which resulted in an abnormal loss of $224 million (£138 million). Overall, News Corp's revenues rose 6 per cent to $13.6 billion (£8.4 billion).
