PBS UK has acquired the US version of Lion Television doc Britain From Above.
The 4 x 60-minute America Revealed offers an insight into how the US works through aerial footage, HD video and satellite data.
The explores the physical infrastructure of the US but also meets the people observing the country from above as part of their jobs.
Produced by Lion TV’s New York office, it features more than 70 animated sequences by Bristol-based 422 South.
The series is fronted by Yul Kwon, winner of reality show Survivor: Cook Islands, who jumps from planes, climbs energy pylons and rides with Las Vegas cabbies to help explain how the country operates.
Richard Kingsbury, PBS UK’s general manager, said: “This fantastic mini-series from Lion Television uses the latest technology to produce spectacular visuals of the way America works.
“From the migration of salmon to the journeys of pizza deliveries, the series is packed with new ways of looking at a familiar country that will fascinate audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Nick Catliff, executive producer and president, Lion Television, said: “In America Revealed we’ve taken the aerial photography, CGI and data visualisation techniques that we developed for the BBC’s “Britain from Above” to a whole new level.
“I think the result is a series that explores and explains the vast systems that keep America running and does so on an epic scale.”
The series is currently airing in the US on PBS and will debut in the UK on 20 June.
