BBC2’s Friday night comedy Roger and Val Have Just Got In lost nearly half a million viewers, opening the way for rival sitcom Pete Versus Life to clinch victory.

The second episode of BBC2’s real-time domestic comedy, starring Dawn French and Alfred Molina, entertained 1.23m (6.4%) and a further 28,400 (0.14%) on BBC HD from 10pm to 10.30pm on Friday evening.

This was down on the previous week’s performance of 1.71m (8.8%) on BBC2 and 41,000 (0.21%) on BBC HD, according to overnight Barb figures supplied by Attentional.

Channel 4’s Friday night offering Pete Versus Life built on its first audience of 1.16m (6%) to pull in 1.27m (6.6%) viewers on Friday between 10pm and 10.35pm. The show, which sees a pair of sport commentators analyse the life of calamitous journalist Pete Griffiths, delivered a further 97,100 (0.8%) to time adjusted C4+1.

BBC News won the slot with an audience of 3.25m (16.9%) on BBC1 from 10pm to 10.35pm, while ITV News at Ten informed 2.19m (11.4%) over the same period.

On Channel 5, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit gripped an audience of 1.13m (6.2%) from 10pm to 10.55pm.
