Founder Dave Austin will transition to a non-executive director role as senior management take the reins

Brighton-based post-production facility The Edit has been acquired by Family Tree Group, the company behind Middlechild Productions, Friday’s Child, Northern Child and Wild Child Studios.
The Edit will continue to operate autonomously, with founder Dave Austin taking a non-executive director role alongside senior management team Claire Hamilton (post production executive) and Sharman Finn (technical director), who have both been leading business operations in recent years.
Family Tree CEO, David Sumnall said: “We’ve long admired The Edit and, when the opportunity presented itself, we couldn’t resist bringing them into the Family Tree group. We already have a strong working relationship with The Edit and I’ve always been impressed with what Dave, Claire, Sharman and the team do; their creatives, their client relations and project management are second to none. They have an incredibly experienced team who are perfectly placed to take The Edit forward. Attracting successful, forward-thinking creatives and businesses to the Family Tree group is what we’re looking for and I’m over the moon that they agreed to join us.”
Finn added: “I’m thrilled for us to have the backing of Family Tree. The Edit will stay independent in how we run things, but we have the wider reach of the group behind us. While film and television remain at the heart of what we do, being part of a media group that spans both broadcast production and digital only strengthens that.”
Hamilton said: “The Edit already has an amazing team, who are always firmly focused on delivering outstanding technical and creative results for all our clients. I’m excited to continue to work together with them all, at our fantastic facility, building on our existing reputation and leading The Edit onto the next chapter”.
The acquisition secures a long-term, well-resourced future for The Edit and will allow Dave Austin to step back and focus on creative endeavors in the future.
Austin said: “I’m so proud of what we have achieved – we celebrated our 20th anniversary last year and continue to be a hub for film and TV production in Brighton. I’m delighted that Family Tree Group has made this investment. The Edit is in safe hands in the future with management team Sharman and Claire, backed up by the Family Tree expertise.”
The Edit’s credits include Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr, Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr, The Great Icelandic Swim with Ross Edgley, Hidden Treasures of the National Trust and The Jury: Murder Trial.
