Impossible Pictures' monster drama Primeval has been sold to the US.

Distributor BBC Worldwide has sold the first two series of the ITV1 action thriller to BBC America, which currently boasts a reach of 60 million.

The show follows the adventures of Professor Nick Cutter, played by Douglas Henshall, who leads a team that tracks down and captures prehistoric creatures that have unwittingly travelled to present day England through a tear in time.

The first series has already been sold to 42 countries around the world and seven broadcasters have now licensed the second series. Alongside BBC America, these include Australia's Channel 9 and Prosieben in Germany.

A third series was recently commissioned by ITV director of drama Laura Mackie and production will begin in March for broadcast in January 2009.
