Production company scores three-year deal
Buzz 16 will produce BBC Sport’s WSL coverage for the next three years, Broadcast Sport can reveal.
Its first game will be Arsenal v London City Lionesses at the Emirates on 6 September, with another 20 games to follow. 14 of the fixtures will be on linear, with the rest shown through iPlayer, as stipulated in the five-year rights deal the BBC agreed in 2024. Alex Scott will present the first fixture, alongside pundits Fara Williams and Ellen White.
Throughout the season Alex Scott, Jeanette Kwakye and Betty Glover will present, alongside pundits Ellen White, Fara Williams, Steph Houghton and Anita Asante. Robyn Cowen and Vicki Sparks are BBC Sport’s lead match commentators, while Rachel Brown-Finnis and Gilly Flaherty will be the main co-commentators.
Sky Sports will air the lion’s share of the WSL, with 118 games-per-season, and its production plans are here. Little Dot runs the WSL and Women’s Championship’s digital channels, which house live match streaming, highlights, and long-form content, and deliver real-time matchday coverage, using live clip rights and photography.
The WSL is now being run by the rebranded WSL Football, and comes into this season on the back of the England Women’s team retaining the European Championship this summer.
Scott Melvin, co-founder and CEO of Buzz16, said: “At Buzz we live and breathe football and with the stratospheric growth of women’s football it is a very fitting start to the 2025/6 season for us to be playing such a vital role in the broadcast of the WSL.
“WSL is committed to growing the women’s game for the future - a sentiment we wholly echo - so we’re incredibly proud to be their newest production partner.”
Stephen Lyle, head of football at the BBC, said: “BBC Sport is excited to be working with Buzz 16 on our Live television coverage of WSL matches. Buzz16 has a record of delivering brilliant football content and shares our passion to bring the excitement and drama of this incredible league to existing and new fans.”
In addition to Buzz 16’s live coverage, the BBC will also have the Women’s Football Show, which returns on Sunday 7 September with highlights of every Women’s Super League fixture. In it, current and former players and managers join presenters Betty Glover and Ben Haines each week to dissect the action from the biggest games.
In addition, this season will see digital highlights from every single fixture also available on the BBC Sport website & app, plus the BBC Women’s Football Weeklypodcast will return on BBC Sounds. Every Tuesday, Ben Haines, former Lioness Ellen White and former Scotland international Jen Beattie will be joined by women’s football stars to discuss the latest news, fixtures and transfers. Plus, there will be bonus episodes with player interviews from the WSL and beyond.
Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, said: “If you loved the Euros this summer then you won’t want to miss the WSL. We’ve got live matches, highlights of every game, clips of the best match moments on social and discussion of all the biggest news on the Women’s Football Weekly podcast, all on free-to-air platforms. We’ve got an exciting season ahead of us!”
