LaLiga and Footballco have partnered on a documentary – A Journey of Passion – that explores how fans across the MENA region experience and express their passion for Spanish football through local culture.

The film explores how LaLiga is woven into everyday life across the Arab world. It follows the journeys of three fans from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Morocco to capture how football shapes their identities and how they remain connected to their clubs despite the distance.

The three fans featured are Amr from Egypt, who has supported Valencia CF for more than 20 years, despite having never been to Spain; Fares, a Real Sociedad fan from Saudi Arabia, whose passion for the club and Basque culture has seen him learn to speak Euskara (the Basque language); and Ismail from Morocco, who has supported Atlético de Madrid since he was a child.

Throughout the film, the three fans receive the surprise of an invitation to Spain to watch their clubs in person. The documentary then follows their journey as they experience LaLiga firsthand—from walking onto the pitch and taking in the atmosphere of the stadium, to connecting with fellow supporters and watching their team from the stands.

Ben Honeyman, head of global football partnerships at Footballco, said: “We recognise that fans’ devotion to their teams is rarely confined by geographical barriers and this often results in unique ways they engage with their clubs and the stories they have to tell. This is why it was a privilege to work with LaLiga to tell the stories of fandom in the region and how these fans, despite the distances between them and their club, can feel so connected to them.”

Raúl Ostalé Bruixola, commercial and marketing director in MENA, adds: “‘A Journey of Passion reflects LaLiga’s commitment to bringing the game closer to fans across the world. The MENA region is home to one of our most passionate football communities, and this documentary celebrates the deep connection our clubs have built with supporters across the region. Together with Footballco, we wanted to tell authentic stories that show how football becomes part of people’s everyday lives, identities and cultures.”

The documentary is being distributed across LaLiga Channels and those of the featured clubs, as well as Footballco’s MENA media network, including Kooora (the region’s largest digital sports publisher) and the Arabic edition of GOAL.
