Disney Channel UK has ordered its biggest ever commission from a UK indie, after asking Talent
Disney Channel UK has ordered its biggest ever commission from a UK indie, after asking Talent Television to develop a family gameshow series. The show, which is still in the early stages of development, will be a 13 x 30-minute "entertaining and educational fantasy adventure" series, based around the workings of the human body.It will feature animation, including a section where contestants are "shrunk" and challenged to find their way round parts of a body. There will also be a live studio section in which contestants will examine oversized body parts close up. A famous face is being sought to act as a presenter and judge on the as yet untitled programme. The show is part of a new commissioning process Disney introduced last year to add more locally produced programming and work more with UK indies. It is due to air towards the end of the year as part of the channel's winter line-up in the Studio Disney strand, which is aimed at eight to 12-year-olds.While the commission is Talent's first children's programme since it set up its kids production division at the start of the year, it will actually be made by Talent's entertainment department. Producer Mark Robson will head the project and Talent deputy chairman and creative director John Kaye Cooper will executive produce it.Talent managing director Tony Humphreys said the order was part of a wider strategy to work with more international players.Meanwhile, Disney has also unveiled the original productions that will run in the autumn. They include animation series Spooky Sisters, and Bite Size, a pre-school cookery programme that will run on Playhouse Disney Channel. On 21 September the sixth Disney Channel Kids Awards hits the screens, with children voting in 11 categories, including Best Group, Best Newcomer and Best TV Moment.
