C5’s Gypsies gallop away with 1.5m

Firecracker Films’ exploration of Britain’s biggest Gypsy gathering the Appleby Horse Fair performed more than half a million viewers above C5’s 900,000 (5%) slot average.

It also performed ahead of C5’s recent series Gypsies Next Door which averaged 1m (5.6%) over its four-part series in a Thursday 9pm slot.

Channel 5 was the only broadcaster to top its 9pm slot average, but BBC1’s drama Keeping Faith attracted the most visitors to the hour with 2m (12.6%).

This was a million down on the channel’s 3m (16.4%) slot average and in line with last’s week figures for the BBC Cymru/Vox Pictures production.

ITV followed in the 9pm pecking order with 1.7m (10.5%) tuning in for Neighbours From Hell: Caught on Camera, with C4’s 24 Hours in A&E close behind. The Garden’s hospital doc pulled in 1.6m (10.3%) only marginally behind the slot’s 1.7m (9.3%) average.

On BBC2, 1m (6.1%) were whisked away by The Chefs’ Brigade as it bubbled to it midway point, according to Barb data from overnights.tv

Expectation’s series, which puts budding chefs under the wing of celebrity restaurateur Jason Atherton, so far has a series average of 1m (6.6%) across three episodes.

Burke’s exploration into what it means to be a woman in Britain today kicked off ahead of the slot’s 800,000 (6%) average.

Looking into beauty and image, the first episode of Flicker Productions three-part series attracted a female-to-male ratio of 72:28 and almost doubled benchmark share of 55-64 year olds from 4.9% to 9.2%.

Despite the appearance of Love Island’s Megan Barton Hanson, it underperformed with younger age categories, cutting benchmark share of 25-34 year olds from 10.4% to 2.8%. The 16-24 year old age group fell 7pp from 10.7% to 3.7%.
