BSkyB has launched a legal action against IT supplier EDS for what the broadcaster described as 'deceit' and 'breach of contract'.

The digital television giant is filing a claim against EDS for 'a material amount' after finding that the group wouldn't be able to uphold its side of the deal that the two parties signed.

EDS was appointed by BSkyB in the summer of 2000 to build a customer relationship management system for the broadcaster's customer contact centres in Scotland.

However, according to Sky, EDS systematically failed to fulfil its contractual obligations, resulting in the termination of that agreement at the beginning of 2002.

At this point, Sky took over the management of the CRM system and has since invested £170m in the project, with a further £50m planned for investment over the next four years.
