UK facilities group Soho Images has become the world's first beta site for Avid Symphony Universal, the 24-frame video post-production tool launched at NAB in April. Soho Group technical manager Andy Howard said the company had decided to trial the system because it offered the ability to create multiple versions from a single master. He said: 'Because the US won't accept standards conversion we are often forced into telecine, sound synching and auto-conforming projects twice. Once for 625 and again for 525. With Symphony we can telecine and final grade once before creating a 24-frame master that can be output in virtually any format and aspect ratio.' He said Soho Images also expected to make significant efficiency savings.

He said: 'With Universal we can now do in one room what used to be achieved with a digital edit suite, a sound-synching studio and aspect-ratio conversion.'
