the brit Awards will be heard across the commercial radio landscape for the first time next year and indie Somethin' Else has been commissioned to provide the content.

Somethin' Else won the lucrative commission from the Commercial Radio Companies' Association following a three-way pitch which also included UBC and USP.

From 19 January, for two weeks, up to 100 stations around the country will broadcast features announcing the nominees for the Brit Awards 2004 best British single and encouraging listeners to vote.

Coverage will be presented by a "chart-topping pop star", who has yet to be appointed, and features with musicians will reveal their favourite song from the list of nominees.

The event will be staged at Earl's Court on 17 February and Somethin' Else will provide sections of the show to commercial radio before it is screened on ITV.

The awards-themed programmes will be executive produced by Somethin' Else director Steve Ackerman and produced by Samantha Bryant.
