Weekend presenter moves to weekdays and replaces outgoing Catherwood who moves back to special reports next year

Channel 5 has announced that weekend news anchor Charlie Stayt will replace Andrea Catherwood as the presenter of the channel's flagship evening news bulletin, 5 News, writes Dominic Timms.

Stayt, who joined Channel 5 news producer ITN five years ago, will take up his new role in January.

5 news editor Gary Rogers said Stayt had been chosen because of his appeal. 'Viewers find him authoritative, reassuring and approachable,' he said.

Prior to joining ITN Stayt worked for a variety of commercial radio station including GWR Group, GLR Radio 5 Live and LBC.
