BBC Scotland's hit comedy series Still Game has received a network commission from BBC2.

The Comedy Unit, the indie behind Scottish comedy Rab C Nesbitt , will begin shooting the fourth series of the sitcom early next year.

The 6 x 30-minute commission follows a successful test early this year, when BBC2 screened a selection of repeats from the first two series to an average audience of 1.36 million (10% share).

On BBC Scotland, the third series ended in June on a high of 1.11 million viewers (a 49.8% share of the Scottish audience).

The new series will again be written by Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, who star as grumpy pensioners Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade.

Colin Gilbert, managing director of The Comedy Unit, will executive produce the series while Michael Hines will produce with Ewan Angus as executive producer for BBC Scotland.

Still Game , a spin-off of BBC1 sketch show Chewin' the Fat , was nominated for the coveted Golden Rose of Montreux last year.

It follows in the footsteps of Rab C Nesbitt, also a spin-off, which won a network commission after a pilot aired on BBC Scotland.
