TalkTalk has appointed Viasat Broadcasting executive Laurence Miall as its director of TV to head up its YouView service.

Miall has spent 10 years at Modern Times Group which owns the international broadcaster leading their pay TV distribution business across the Baltic States, Russia and emerging markets as well as launching free TV services in Eastern Europe and Africa.

Reporting into TalkTalk’s executive commercial director Tristia Clarke, Miall replaces Max Alexander who becomes executive director of innovation from 1 January.

Alexander played a key role in launching the YouView service on TalkTalk and will now lead strategic innovation across the group, reporting into chief executive officer Dido Harding.

Clarke said Miall would help grow take-up of YouView among TalkTalk’s 4m existing phone and broadband subscribers.

“We’re delighted to welcome Laurence at an exciting time for our business with our TV service up and running and ready to realise its potential,” she said. “Laurence is experienced in content partnerships and channel management and will be leading our partnership with YouView.”
