Agreement with Spanish football federation RFEF sees tech seen for first time in the competition
LaLiga and RFEF debuted its RefCam technology in the Copa Del Rey final on 18 April, after the pair came to an agreement over its use.
During Real Sociedad’s penalty shootout victory over Atletico Madrid, referee Javier Alberola wore a headset-mounted camera with an integrated microphone, with content from it provided to the host broadcast feed, produced by RTVE. The content was also used in highlights and on digital platforms.
This technology will now have a phased introduction to LaLiga, and will be used in one match per matchday from 22 April. This will include the next El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona on 10 May.
