The two outfits were unable agree financial terms of a new deal and Telewest's 1.4 million cable viewers lost the channel two weeks ago on 23 May.
But the two parties hammered out an agreement late on Friday and Telewest's History Channel viewers were plugged back in to the documentary offering at the start of the weekend.
The details of the rapprochement remain unclear. But one History Channel source claimed that Telewest 'did a spin on their heels' and History Channel managing director Geoff Metzger said there had been a 'fortunate turn of events'.
