High court action has been launched against Telewest and On Digital for alleged unlicensed use of patented pay-television software. US company TV/Com International has launched proceedings against the two cable firms and their technology providers for failing to gain licences for patented TV/Com conditional access technology which ensures that pay-TV channels are only received by authorised subscribers. In the UK, the action is against Telewest and its supplier Swiss firm Nagra Kudelski and On Digital and its supplier French outfit Canal+ Technologies. Legal proceedings have also been launched in the US and France.
