BBC Studios lands one-off special
Tribute acts of George Michael, Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson are to duet as part of a BBC1 one-off entertainment special.
The broadcaster has ordered Even Better Than The Real Thing from BBC Studios.
The show will bring together top tribute acts for one night, recreating note-for-note performances of their idols.
Other acts planned include Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry and Adele.
A studio audience will then pick their favourite performer.
The 1 x 60-minute show will be produced by BBC Studios Entertainment North and will be filmed later this summer at MediaCity UK in Salford.
The special was ordered by BBC Entertainment commissioning controller Kate Phillips and commissioning editor Rachel Ashdown.
It will be exec produced by Andrew Cartmell, who has worked on series including Let It Shine and Tumble, and BBC Studios Entertainment North managing editor Kieron Collins. The series producer is Maisie Maguire, who has worked on The Xtra Factor and Total Wipeout.
Ashdown said: “In the last ten years, tribute artists have exploded in popularity across the UK and around the world. Their talent and professionalism is breath-taking and now BBC1 is delighted to be sharing and celebrating these show-stopping performances.”
