Benidorm is Murder

“Some actors can sell a show to you simply by being in the credits. John Hannah is one such draw. He can do serious, funny, and heartbreaking, even Hollywood, without breaking a sweat or making a fuss. Who better, then, to front this daft but deceptively smart cosy crime drama set on the Costa Blanca? Think of Benidorm is Murder as a more lightweight Death in Paradise, or a less deranged Benidorm. Perhaps Duty Free without the double entendres and “Whoops, there go my trousers” humour. It sounds awful, but fear not.”

Don’t Date Brandon, Channel 4

“It’s a strange title – both lazy and misguided, more suggestive of a 90s sitcom (ditzy roommates! Wild situations! One hot guy!) than an account of one man’s cutting of a destructive swathe through his local dating pool, which is what it is. But that is all of a piece with what is – at least on the basis of the one episode of the three that was made available for review – a lazy and misguided programme…Most of [the] information, however, is crammed into the last few minutes of the first episode. The rest of it is spent largely marking time.”
Lucy Mangan, The Guardian
