Vice Media is looking for new directors to work with on its tranche of original UK productions.
Speaking at Sheffield DocFest, Vice UK’s head of video content Al Brown, said that the youth-skewing digital brand produces around 80-90% of its content inhouse. “But we are interested in new ideas and we’d usually try and bring in [new] directors and make them in-house,” he said.
Brown said that it eschewed working with indies and preferred to bring in individuals to work with its existing team.
He said that Vice was looking for ideas to complement its existing online content as well as its recent HBO series. “We’ve grown up and our audience has also grown up,” he said. “It’s cool to be engaged about the world.”
Separately its US-produced magazine series Vice has been renewed for a second season. HBO has ordered a second 12-part series, which will air next year, up from its first season order of ten episodes.
“Vice’s fearless, irreverent style of news coverage has produced a uniquely provocative show,” said HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo. “We look forward to more of their groundbreaking reporting in season two.”
The series will air in the UK on Sky Atlantic later this year.
