The BBC is set to add another big-money gameshow to its peaktime line-up after commissioning Hat Trick Productions to produce a new quiz show fronted by Ruby Wax with a jackpot of£30,000, writes Leigh Holmwood

The Waiting Game will boast the second biggest prize fund on the BBC, after the primetime version of Weakest Link, which has had its jackpot boosted to£50,000 for its current series. BBC 1 controller Lorraine Heggessey commissioned the series, which is expected to air as an 8 x 30-minute format.

In the show, three couples will attempt to 'psyche each other out' to win the prize. Each couple works as a team, but will not be allowed to confer and must trust each other to come up with correct answers. The longer the players wait, the more money they could win, although waiting too long could mean the other team steals the prize.

The quiz, to be produced by Amanda Wilson and executive produced by Jimmy Mulville and Denise O'Donoghue, is expected to air this year.
