Shane Allen orders 30-minute one-off

Vic Reeves Big Night Out

BBC2 is bringing back Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer’s surreal ‘90s stage show for a one-off special.

The broadcaster is rebooting Vic & Bob’s Big Night Out, which was first broadcast on Channel 4 in 1990.

The one-off will include new characters as well as bringing back some old favourites and celeb cameos. It will also include sketches shot on location, with skits and stunts performed in front of a studio audience.

The 30-minute show has been ordered by controller of comedy commissioning Shane Allen and will be produced by BBC Studios (BBCS).

Former Top Gear exec Lisa Clark, who previously ran Reeves and Mortimer’s indie Pett Productions, is producing, with BBCS head of comedy Chris Sussman exec producing and Mat Whitecross, director of recent Oasis doc Supersonic, directing.

Last August, Reeves revealed he was rebooting the sketch show on Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast.

Allen said: “Vic and Bob go back to their live stage show roots to mark three decades as the most pioneering, surreal and unique pairing in British comedy.

“With a mix of old and new characters, recorded in an intimate setting they give a modern spin on that rich tradition of English eccentricity that stretches back to the music hall, through Spike Milligan and The Pythons in creating characters that delight or baffle depending on who you are.”

A TX date is yet to be confirmed.
